The Spanish Food & Beverage industry ranks first position, both in turnover terms, employment capability and industrial networking generation.
Food & Beverage industry shows high company diversity in most of sub sectors, with a great deal of small sized companies (less than 20 employees) together with a short number of major firms.
Number of companies with 20 or more employees: 3,506
Number of companies with less than 20 employees: 18,026
Typically small sized companies concentrate in Bread and Baking, but Meat as well as Alcoholic production also gather a great deal of SMEs as consequence of traditional artisan production methods.
The largest area is the meat industry, followed by non-alcoholic beverages. Other key sectors are dairy, animal feed, bakery and pastry, followed by vegetable processing and manufacturing of fats and oils.
Food Industry concentrates in particular in the region of Catalonia. Andalusia, Castilla-Leon and Valencia are at second level of Food and Beverage industrial production.
